Acute respiratory infection

Acute respiratory infection (ARI) is a sudden illness caused by viruses or bacteria that affects the respiratory system, including the nose, throat, airways, and lungs. Common symptoms include cough, sore throat, runny nose, fever, and shortness of breath. ARIs can range from mild colds to more severe conditions like pneumonia. They are spread through respiratory droplets when an infected person coughs, sneezes, or talks. Most cases improve with rest and fluids, but some may require medical treatment, especially in vulnerable populations. Preventive measures include good hygiene, vaccinations, and avoiding close contact with infected individuals.
