acute cerebrovascular accident
An acute cerebrovascular accident, commonly called a stroke, occurs when blood flow to part of the brain is suddenly interrupted or reduced. This deprives brain cells of oxygen and nutrients, causing them to quickly start dying. There are two main types: ischemic stroke, caused by a blood clot blocking a brain artery, and hemorrhagic stroke, caused by a burst blood vessel. Symptoms can include sudden weakness, numbness, difficulty speaking, vision problems, or loss of balance. Immediate medical treatment is crucial to minimize brain damage and improve chances of recovery.
