Active Queue Management (AQM)

Active Queue Management (AQM) is a technique used in computer networks to manage data traffic efficiently. When multiple devices send data to a network, the router temporarily stores packets in a queue. If too many packets arrive too quickly, the queue can become congested, causing delays and packet loss. AQM algorithms monitor the queue length and proactively drop or signal some packets before congestion becomes severe, encouraging devices to slow down transmission. This helps maintain smoother data flow, reduces delays, and improves overall network performance by preventing bottlenecks before they happen.
