Activated Protein C resistance

Activated Protein C resistance is a condition where the body's natural process for preventing excessive blood clotting doesn't work properly. Normally, activated protein C helps slow down clot formation by inactivating certain clotting factors. In resistance, particularly due to a genetic change called Factor V Leiden mutation, this regulation is impaired, increasing the risk of abnormal blood clots forming in veins. This condition can remain unnoticed until a blood clot occurs, making it important to diagnose especially for individuals with a history of clotting issues or risk factors.
