Actium
Actium was a pivotal naval battle in 31 BCE where Octavian (later Augustus) defeated the forces of Mark Antony and Cleopatra. Taking place near a small gulf in Greece, the battle marked the end of a complex struggle for power following the decline of the Roman Republic. Octavian’s victory solidified his control over Rome and its territories, leading to the establishment of the Roman Empire. The Battle of Actium is often seen as a turning point that shifted Rome from a republic to an empire ruled by one emperor.
