Actinica (Latin for "of light")
Actinica is a topical medication containing a drug called ingenol mebutate, used to treat actinic keratosis—rough, scaly patches on the skin caused by sun damage. It works by triggering the skin's immune response to destroy abnormal cells. Typically applied directly to affected areas for a few days, Actinica helps reduce the risk of developing more serious skin conditions, including skin cancers, by targeting early precancerous lesions. It’s an effective, non-invasive option for managing sun-damaged skin, allowing patients to treat affected spots at home under medical guidance.
