Acoustic cues
Acoustic cues are specific sounds or features in speech that help us distinguish different words and sounds. These include aspects like pitch (how high or low a sound is), loudness (volume), duration (how long a sound lasts), and frequency (the quality of the sound). For example, the difference between the sounds "b" and "p" can be identified by the burst of air and the timing of the sound. Acoustic cues serve as the building blocks that our auditory system uses to interpret and understand spoken language accurately.
