Acne Scarring

Acne scarring occurs when severe or untreated acne damages the skin’s deeper layers, causing the tissue to heal unevenly. This results in various types of scars, such as pitted or depressed areas (atrophic scars), raised scars (hypertrophic or keloid scars), or discoloration. The severity and type of scar depend on how much damage the skin sustained and how it heals. These scars are a common long-term effect of acne, but treatments like laser therapy, microneedling, or chemical peels can improve their appearance by encouraging healthy skin regeneration.
