Acid dyes

Acid dyes are a type of synthetic dye used mainly to color proteins and fibers like wool, silk, and nylon. They are called "acid" because they are applied in acidic conditions, which help the dye bond tightly to the fiber. These dyes have a negatively charged (anion) component that interacts with the positive (cation) sites on protein fibers, resulting in vibrant, permanent colors. Acid dyes are widely used in textiles, crafts, and some printing processes due to their strong colorfastness and bright hues. They are an important tool in achieving durable, attractive coloration on specific materials.
