Acid Chlorides

Acid chlorides, also known as acyl chlorides, are chemical compounds derived from carboxylic acids by replacing the hydroxyl group (-OH) with a chlorine atom. They are reactive, colorless liquids used primarily in the synthesis of other chemicals, such as pharmaceuticals and polymers. Acid chlorides are characterized by a carbon atom double-bonded to an oxygen atom and single-bonded to a chlorine atom. Due to their high reactivity, they readily undergo reactions to form esters, amides, and acids, making them valuable intermediates in chemical manufacturing processes.
