Achenseebahn

The Achenseebahn is a historic cog railway in Austria, built in 1889 to transport visitors and goods up the mountainside to Achensee Lake. It uses a special gear system called a cogwheel that meshes with a toothed rail, allowing the train to handle steep slopes that regular trains can't manage. The railway covers about 7.2 kilometers and offers scenic views of the surrounding mountains. Today, it operates mainly for tourism, providing a nostalgic and picturesque journey through the Tyrol region's Alpine landscape.
