Academia de San Carlos
The Academia de San Carlos, established in 1781 in Mexico City, is a historic art school that played a vital role in developing Mexican artistic identity. It was the first major art institution in the Americas dedicated to higher education in painting, sculpture, and engraving. Embracing European styles while fostering local talent, it influenced countless artists and contributed to the cultural growth of Mexico. Today, its legacy continues through the Museo de Arte Moderno and the Escuela Nacional de Pintura, Escultura y Grabado "La Esmeralda."
