AC Traction
AC traction refers to using alternating current (AC) electricity to power trains and streetcars. In this system, electricity from overhead wires or underground cables is transmitted to a vehicle’s motor via a pantograph or conduit. The AC power is then converted inside the vehicle into the appropriate form to drive the electric motors, which propel the train. AC traction is efficient for long-distance and high-speed transportation because it allows for easy voltage control, multiple motors, and reliable operation. This system improves energy efficiency and reduces the need for onboard batteries, making rail transit safer and more effective.
