Abuelas de Plaza de Mayo
Abuelas de Plaza de Mayo, or Grandmothers of Plaza de Mayo, is a human rights organization in Argentina founded in 1977. They seek to identify and recover children who were forcibly taken from their families during the country's military dictatorship (1976-1983), a period marked by political repression and forced disappearances. Many of these children were adopted illegally by military or security personnel. The abuelas work to locate, reunify, and advocate for justice for these children and their families, helping to restore their identities and address human rights violations.
