Abrogation of Article 370

The abrogation of Article 370 refers to the Indian government revoking a special constitutional provision that granted Jammu and Kashmir a degree of autonomy. This article allowed the region to have its own laws, flag, and degree of self-governance. On August 5, 2019, the government nullified Article 370, integrating Jammu and Kashmir fully into India, and restructuring it into two separate Union Territories—Jammu and Kashmir, and Ladakh. This move aimed to create a uniform legal framework, promote development, and improve security, though it also sparked significant political and regional reactions.
