
Abrikosov Vortices
Abrikosov vortices are tiny whirlpools that form within certain types of superconductors when exposed to a magnetic field. In superconductors, electrical resistance drops to zero, but when a magnetic field is strong enough, it penetrates the material in these quantized vortex lines. Each vortex contains a core where superconductivity is locally suppressed, allowing magnetic flux to pass through. These vortices arrange themselves in an orderly pattern, like a lattice, and influence the superconductor's properties, particularly how it responds to magnetic and electrical forces. Their understanding is essential for developing advanced superconducting technologies.
