Aboriginal Australian Languages
Aboriginal Australian languages are the diverse languages historically spoken by Aboriginal peoples across Australia, with over 250 distinct languages and many dialects. These languages are integral to cultural identity, storytelling, and knowledge about the land and environment. They belong to several language families, such as Pama–Nyungan, and are characterized by complex grammar and unique sounds. Many of these languages are endangered due to historical suppression and language loss. Efforts are ongoing to preserve, revive, and promote Aboriginal languages, recognizing their vital role in Australia's intangible cultural heritage.
