Abhijit Banerjee is an Indian-American economist recognized for his work on poverty and development. He co-founded the Poverty Action Lab (J-PAL) and has conducted extensive research on how policies and programs can effectively reduce poverty worldwide. His approach emphasizes rigorous testing of interventions through randomized controlled trials, similar to clinical trials in medicine. In 2019, he was awarded the Nobel Prize in Economic Sciences, along with Esther Duflo and Michael Kremer, for their innovative methods in understanding and addressing global poverty challenges with evidence-based solutions.
