Abiel Smith School
The Abiel Smith School, established in 1823 in Boston, Massachusetts, was one of the first public schools for African American children in the United States. Founded to provide quality education to formerly enslaved and free Black children, it aimed to improve their social and economic opportunities during a time of widespread discrimination. The school played a significant role in Black history and was part of broader efforts to promote racial equality and education. It later became part of the Boston Public Schools system and is now recognized as a historic site honoring African American education and heritage.
