Abhijit Banerjee is an Indian-American economist known for his work in development economics, particularly in understanding how poverty affects individuals and communities. He co-founded the Abdul Latif Jameel Poverty Action Lab (J-PAL), which conducts field experiments to find effective solutions to global poverty. In 2019, he was awarded the Nobel Prize in Economic Sciences, alongside Esther Duflo and Michael Kremer, for their innovative approach to addressing complex social issues through experimental methods.
