AAA
AAA, or abdominal aortic aneurysm, is a bulge or ballooning in the main blood vessel (aorta) that supplies blood to the abdomen, pelvis, and legs. This weakening causes the vessel wall to stretch and thicken, increasing the risk of rupture, which can lead to life-threatening bleeding. Often, AAA develops gradually and may not cause symptoms initially. Risk factors include aging, smoking, high blood pressure, and a family history. Detecting AAA early through screening is essential for managing it, often with monitoring or surgical repair to prevent rupture and complications.
