A1 Steam Locomotive Trust
The A1 Steam Locomotive Trust is a UK-based charitable organization dedicated to building and operating a new replica of the historic A1 Class steam locomotive, named Tornado. Established in 2006, the trust brings together engineering experts and enthusiasts to design, construct, and maintain this iconic engine, which is based on a 1948 design by Sir Nigel Gresley. Tornado serves as a working tribute to Britain’s steam history, running on mainline railways and promoting engineering skills. The trust also supports educational projects and preserves traditional locomotive craftsmanship for future generations.
