A-T patients
A-T patients have a rare genetic disorder called Ataxia-Telangiectasia, caused by mutations in a gene responsible for repairing DNA. This leads to progressive problems with coordination and balance (ataxia), difficulty with speech, and an increased risk of infections due to weakened immune function. They may also develop blood vessel abnormalities called telangiectasias and are more prone to certain cancers. The condition affects multiple systems and typically worsens over time, requiring ongoing medical management and support.
