A&R executive

An A&R (Artists & Repertoire) executive is a music industry professional responsible for discovering new talent and guiding artists’ development. They evaluate demo recordings, attend live performances, and identify promising artists or bands. Once they sign an artist, they work with them to select songs, refine their sound, and coordinate recording projects. Their goal is to help artists succeed commercially and creatively by connecting them with appropriate songwriters, producers, and other resources. Essentially, they serve as a bridge between artists and the record label, shaping the artist’s musical direction and contributing to the label’s overall roster and market strategy.
