Aβ2M
Aβ2M, or beta-2 microglobulin, is a small protein that is part of the immune system and found on the surface of most cells. It plays a role in presenting pieces of proteins (antigens) to immune cells to help identify threats like infections. Normally, Aβ2M is produced and broken down in the body, but in certain conditions like kidney disease, it can accumulate in the blood. Elevated levels are associated with inflammation and some chronic illnesses, and they may also be linked to complications such as amyloidosis, where abnormal protein deposits can affect organs.
