9/11

The 9/11 attacks were a suicide terrorist plot carried out on September 11, 2001, when al-Qaeda hijackers hijacked four commercial airplanes. Two planes were flown into the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center in New York City, causing their collapse. A third plane hit the Pentagon near Washington, D.C., and a fourth crashed into a field in Pennsylvania after passengers intervened. Nearly 3,000 people died. The attacks led to significant shifts in U.S. security policies, the initiation of the War on Terror, and increased global focus on counterterrorism efforts.
