8-bit design
An 8-bit design refers to computer systems or digital data that use eight binary digits (bits) to represent information. Each bit can be a 0 or 1, so 8 bits combine to create 256 different values (from 0 to 255). This structure is common in older computers, video game consoles, and microcontrollers, as it balances simplicity with functionality. In essence, an 8-bit design determines how many different values a device or system can directly process or store at once, affecting its power, accuracy, and complexity.
