7. Women's Rights in Marriage and Divorce

Historically, women's rights in marriage and divorce were severely limited. For centuries, many legal systems treated women as property of their husbands, lacking independence in financial matters and decision-making. With the women's rights movement, particularly from the late 19th century onward, significant changes occurred. Women fought for the right to initiate divorce, gain custody of children, and retain property. Achievements like the Married Women's Property Acts and no-fault divorce laws have established greater equality. Today, although progress has been made, challenges remain in ensuring fairness and equal rights in marriage and divorce worldwide.
