7 Cooperative Principles
The seven Cooperative Principles are guidelines that help cooperatives operate fairly and effectively. They include voluntary and open membership, meaning anyone can join; democratic member control, where members have a say in decisions; member economic participation, members contribute financially and benefit proportionally; autonomy and independence, cooperatives run independently; education, training, and information to members; cooperation among cooperatives to strengthen the movement; and concern for community, acting ethically and supporting local well-being. These principles ensure cooperatives serve members’ needs while promoting democratic values and social responsibility.
