Combined Immune Deficiency Disorders (CIDs) are a group of rare conditions where a person's immune system doesn't work properly. This leads to a heightened risk of infections because both T cells and B cells, which are crucial for fighting off germs, are either absent or not functioning well. CIDs can be inherited and may be detected in infancy or childhood. Common symptoms include frequent infections and poor growth. Treatment often requires careful management, including medications, antibiotics, and possibly stem cell transplants, to help restore immune function and improve health outcomes.
