
2nd Earl of Essex (1596–1646)
The 2nd Earl of Essex, Robert Devereux (1596–1646), was an English nobleman and politician. He was the grandson of the famous Earl of Essex who led a rebellion in 1601. The 2nd Earl was involved in politics during a turbulent time leading up to the English Civil War. He was known for his loyalty to the monarchy and served as a royalist commander. He was imprisoned during the war and died in 1646. His life reflects the complex loyalties and political struggles of 17th-century England.
