22 July 2011 attacks

On July 22, 2011, Norway experienced two linked terrorist attacks. First, a bomb exploded in Oslo’s government district, damaging buildings and infrastructure. Shortly after, a far-right extremist carried out a mass shooting at a youth camp on Utøya Island, targeting young political participants. The attacks resulted in 77 deaths and many injuries. The perpetrator, Anders Behring Breivik, claimed his actions were to protest what he considered excessive multiculturalism and undermine the Norwegian government’s policies. The events shocked Norway and the world, highlighting issues of extremism, security, and the importance of vigilance against domestic terrorism.
