2021 federal election
The 2021 Canadian federal election was held on September 20, 2021, to choose Members of Parliament (MPs). Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s Liberal Party aimed to secure a majority government but remained with a minority, winning 159 seats out of 338. The Conservative Party gained seats but remained the official opposition. The New Democratic Party, Bloc Québécois, and Green Party also won seats. The election was called early, partly due to political negotiations and the desire for a mandate amid ongoing issues like the pandemic. It reaffirmed Trudeau’s leadership but did not significantly alter the parliamentary balance of power.
