2020 Myanmar general election
The 2020 Myanmar general election, held on November 8, 2020, was a nationwide vote to elect members to the Pyithu Hluttaw (House of Representatives), Amyotha Hluttaw (House of Nationalities), and regional parliaments. The National League for Democracy (NLD), led by Aung San Suu Kyi, won a majority, reaffirming its political dominance. However, Myanmar's military, known as the Tatmadaw, alleged widespread electoral fraud and claimed the election was flawed. This dispute led to the military's coup on February 1, 2021, overthrowing the elected government and sparking ongoing protests and unrest.
