2014 Oso landslide

The 2014 Oso landslide was a major disaster that occurred in Oso, Washington, when a massive section of a hillside gave way, burying the small community of Steelhead Haven. Triggered by heavy rainfall and the instability of the steep, saturated soil, the landslide moved quickly, destroying homes and claiming 43 lives.
