2011 Slovak presidential election
The 2011 Slovak presidential election was an indirect vote held in March, where members of Parliament elected the new president. Prime Minister Iveta Radičová was the incumbent but was not a candidate. The race mainly involved Andrej Kiska, a businessman and philanthropist, and the then-acting president Robert Fico, a former prime minister. Kiska won with approximately 55% of the votes, becoming Slovakia's first independent candidate to be elected president. The election marked a shift toward a more independent presidency, emphasizing change and new leadership in Slovakia.
