2010 earthquake

The 2010 earthquake, often referred to as the Haiti earthquake, struck near Port-au-Prince on January 12, with a magnitude of 7.0. It resulted from the movement of the Caribbean and North American tectonic plates along a fault line, causing the Earth's crust to suddenly slip. This seismic event caused widespread destruction, collapsing buildings and infrastructure, and resulted in over 200,000 deaths and hundreds of thousands of injuries. The earthquake highlighted vulnerabilities in Haiti’s economic and infrastructural resilience, prompting international aid and reconstruction efforts to support recovery.
