2005 Gaza Disengagement Plan

The 2005 Gaza Disengagement Plan was an Israeli government decision to unilaterally withdraw all Israeli settlers and military forces from the Gaza Strip, aiming to reduce conflict and improve security. Implemented in August 2005, it involved evacuating about 8,000 settlers and dismantling settlements within Gaza. The plan also shifted control of borders and infrastructure to the Palestinian Authority, intending to pave the way for Palestinian self-governance. While it reduced Israeli presence in Gaza, it did not end tensions, and subsequent conflicts and political divisions have continued to shape the region.
