Mucocutaneous candidiasis is an infection caused by the fungus Candida, affecting the mucous membranes and skin. In people with SCID (Severe Combined Immunodeficiency), the immune system is severely weakened, making them highly susceptible to infections. This leads to recurrent and persistent candidiasis, often manifesting in areas like the mouth, throat, and skin. Symptoms may include white patches, soreness, and itching. Because SCID patients lack the ability to fight off such infections effectively, mucocutaneous candidiasis can become a significant and chronic health issue, requiring careful medical management and treatment.
