Georges Dumézil was a French scholar who studied ancient cultures and religions. He proposed that many Indo-European societies shared a common worldview, reflected in their myths, gods, and social structures. Dumézil identified a recurring tripartite pattern involving three functions: sovereignty (royalty and authority), warfare (military strength), and productivity (fertility and sustenance). He believed these roles shaped the way societies organized themselves and how their religions expressed these ideas through gods and rituals. His work helped us understand the similarities across diverse ancient cultures, revealing underlying patterns that connect their beliefs and social systems.
