19th-century Irish history
19th-century Irish history was marked by ongoing struggles for independence and land rights amid British dominance. The Great Famine (1845-1849) caused mass starvation, emigration, and economic decline. Throughout the century, movements for Irish self-governance grew, leading to the push for Home Rule. The Irish Land War (1879-1882) aimed to improve conditions for tenant farmers. Increasing Irish nationalism fueled cultural revival and political activism. Despite efforts, full independence was not achieved during this period. The century set the stage for Ireland’s continued quest for sovereignty and shaped its national identity.
