1993 Cambodian general election

The 1993 Cambodian general election, held in May, was the first after decades of conflict and aimed to establish a democratic government. Organized under the United Nations, it sought to bring peace and stability by allowing citizens to vote for their representatives. The Cambodian People's Party, led by Hun Sen, won the majority of seats, but the election was considered largely free and fair, helping to lay the foundation for Cambodia's political reconstruction. It marked a significant step towards democracy after years of civil war and dictatorship, although political challenges persisted.
