1991 Reforms
The 1991 reforms in the Soviet Union were a series of significant changes aimed at revitalizing the economy and increasing political openness. They included introducing elements of market economy, reducing central government control, allowing more private enterprise, and promoting transparency (glasnost). These reforms sought to modernize the economy and improve governance but also unintentionally accelerated calls for independence among various republics. Ultimately, they contributed to the weakening of Soviet authority, paving the way for the country's dissolution later that year.
