1984 Ram Janmabhoomi Movement
The 1984 Ram Janmabhoomi movement aimed to build a Hindu temple at the believed birthplace of Lord Rama in Ayodhya, India. Historically, a mosque called Babri Masjid was constructed there in the 16th century. Hindu groups claimed the site was originally a Ram temple, leading to long-standing disputes. In 1984, renewed activism gained momentum, fostering national debates on religious identity and historical significance. The movement ultimately culminated in the 1992 demolition of the mosque by activists, sparking widespread communal violence and deepening religious tensions in India.
