1983 Invasion of Grenada
The 1983 Invasion of Grenada was a U.S.-led military operation aimed at removing a Marxist government that had seized power in Grenada, a small Caribbean nation. Concerns grew over the safety of American citizens, including students at a nearby college, and fears of a communist threat. In October 1983, U.S. forces invaded Grenada, quickly overthrowing the government and restoring a pro-Western administration. The operation, called "Operation Urgent Fury," was controversial internationally but was justified by the U.S. as necessary for regional stability and protecting its citizens.
