The Ocean Ranger disaster occurred on February 14, 1982, when the offshore oil drilling rig, located off Newfoundland, was hit by a severe storm with hurricane-force winds and high waves. The rig's topside structure was torn apart by the storm, causing a rapid influx of water. Despite crew efforts, the rig sank, resulting in the tragic deaths of all 84 crew members. It was one of the deadliest maritime offshore accidents and highlighted the dangers of offshore drilling, emphasizing the need for improved safety measures and weather preparedness in harsh marine environments.
