1970 Expansion Draft
The 1970 Expansion Draft was a process used by the National Football League (NFL) to help two new teams, the Cincinnati Bengals and the Seattle Seahawks, build their rosters. Existing teams could protect a select number of players, and the new teams selected from the unprotected players. This allowed the new teams to assemble competitive squads while existing teams retained their key players. The draft was essential for establishing the talent for the expansion teams and ensuring a balanced league as it grew.
