1958 Venezuelan coup

The 1958 Venezuelan coup was a political upheaval in Venezuela when military leaders ousted President Marcos Pérez Jiménez, who had been ruling with authoritarian control since 1952. Widespread dissatisfaction with his dictatorship, censorship, and lack of democracy led to protests and military discontent. On January 23, 1958, the military withdrew support, and Pérez Jiménez was captured and exiled. This event ended his dictatorship, paving the way for the establishment of a democratic government and greater political freedoms in Venezuela.
