1950 Annapurna Expedition
The 1950 Annapurna Expedition was a significant mountaineering event in Nepal, aiming to explore the challenging Annapurna massif, which has some of the world's highest peaks. Led by French explorer Maurice Herzog, the team aimed to summit Annapurna I, a 26,545-foot mountain. They encountered extreme conditions and technical challenges. Although Herzog's team initially reached high altitudes, they did not succeed in reaching the summit. However, the expedition was historic as it was the first time a peak over 8,000 meters was attempted, laying groundwork for future Himalayan exploration and inspiring global interest in high-altitude climbing.
