1948 Nakba

The 1948 Nakba, meaning "catastrophe" in Arabic, refers to the mass displacement of Palestinian Arabs during the establishment of Israel. As Israel declared independence, many Palestinians fled or were expelled from their homes due to conflict, fear, or violence. Around 700,000 Palestinians lost their homes, leading to long-lasting refugee issues and regional tension. This event remains a central point of grievance and identity for Palestinians and is viewed by many as a tragic and pivotal moment in Middle Eastern history.
